MILWAUKEE, WI - (April 2009) - Brady Street Business Improvement District #11 (BID) announces Flower Power "A Green Day" on Saturday, May 9th, 2009.
From 11 am to 4 pm, Brady Street merchants will present eco-focused ideas, partner with green businesses, and provide information on a variety of earth-friendly topics designed to show people how to leave a smaller carbon footprint; how to repurpose, what to recycle, where to dispose of hazardous waste, and why to conserve. Whether it’s in the garden, the home, the garage, the medicine chest, or the clothes you wear, there are ways to be socially responsible, lessen the landfill load, and sleep better at night! Rain or shine, it will be a green day on Brady.
Here’s what you will find on Brady Street on Saturday, May 9th, 2009:
1. Goodwill Barrels Drop off your gently used clothing and shoes at participating retailers.
2. Milwaukee Biodiesel Coop find out how cars run on biodeisel (and what biodeisel is and how to make it yourself!)
3. Rain Barrel and Composting Displays water conservation and repurposing can make your garden and your wallet greener.
4. Reusable Tote Bag giveaway at participating merchants.
5. Perennial Swap Seed, bulb, perennial plant swap outside the fire house; bring your clippings and take something new home to bloom.
6. Green info on recycling, reusing and leading a less bio hazardous life!
And Despite prevailing winds and local horticultural wisdom, merchants and residents will display floral designs using fresh flowers, paper, silk, and organic materials (and anything else they can think of) to create unique, hip, stylish, warm visual interpretations of spring. Even with cool spring Wisconsin temperatures, this event in early May is designed to encourage people to “think spring”, albeit in a container that can be brought in at night! Each design will be on display for the public to view inside and outside, up and down Brady Street during the day. This year our urban judges are 88NINE Milwaukee DJ Marcus Doucette, Today’s TMJ4 Anchor Mike Jacobs, and Alderman Nik Kovac.
Throughout the day of the event, merchants will offer a variety of Flower Power specials including floral-inspired entrees and beverages, “sunshine sales” and green light (compact fluorescent variety) specials.
Flower Power is sponsored in part by AirTran, DigiCOPY, Shepherd-Express, ExpressMilwaukee.com, OnMilwaukee.com, Budweiser, Sprecher Brewing Company, New Glarus Brewing Company, 88NINE Milwaukee.
